Over 12,000 Ethiopians arrested in Sudan 25-2-2012

Over 12,000 Ethiopians have been imprisoned in Omdurman Prison, Northern Sudan, Tadias Addis, an entertainment Radio Program in Addis Abeba, reported today (25-2-2012). The detained Ethiopians were said to have been living in Sudan without legal residency documentation. Most of them have lived and worked in Sudan for many years. The source also stated that some  Ethiopians with legal residency documents are also being arrested.

The Ethiopian Embassy in Sudan is saying "It doesn't concern me", according to Ethiopians in Khartoum who approched the Embassy  seeking help. Those discovered with HIV/AIDS in their blood are being given "poison" and killed, the Source from Sudan told the Radio.  The Ethiopian prisioners are reportedly being tortured while some females were "sexually assulted", the Radio reported. Dina Mufti, Speaker of the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said they have no information about the arrest or torture. It is to be recalled that Ethiopia and Sudan  agreed not to receive rebel figures or host each other’s rebel forces in their territory in December 2011.

On a related development, 40 Ethiopians have reportedly died in Sudan last week alone due to "different accidents".
