Blue Party Calls For A Protest Outside Saudi Embassy In Addis Abeba

Saudi police have confirmed an Ethiopian migrant died during raids on illegal workers in the kingdom.

Authorities have been searching businesses and public places in search of foreign workers who failed to legalise their status during a six-month amnesty that ended on last Sunday.

More than 16,000 people have reportedly been arrested since last Monday.

In a statement, Riyadh police chief Nasser el-Qahtani said the African migrant worker died in el-Manhoufa on Tuesday when he and others tried to resist arrest, Al Jazeera reported.

No further details, including how the death occurred or whether any office would be charged over the incident, were released.

Majority of the approximately 12m foreign workers in Saudi Arabia are South Asian and African migrants who rely on work in the kingdom to send remittances to their families.

During the amnesty, about 1m workers returned to their homes without ramifications, while a further 4m corrected their visa status, according to official departments.
