    News in Brief

The Oromo Peoples' Democratic Organization (OPDO) an ethnic-based political party that forms the ruling Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) has been leaderless like Ethiopia is now for almost one year. The regional President Alemayehu Atomsa has reportedly been "poisoned" one year ago and has been unable to lead full-fledged.  OPDO's Central Committee has thus been meeting in Adama town to replace Alemayehu who filed his resignation already. According to sources the Organisation has so far been unable to  elect his successor. One one hand the nations mover and shaker wants to install its own picking, Aster Mamo while the CC members want Abadula Gemeda to preside.

Samora Younis leaves Ethiopia for emergency hospitalization. Major General Samora Muhammad Yunis, the Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian National Defence Forces has been flown to an undisclosed country in the Middle East after he accidentally fall ill.   He is allegedly in a "critical condition." The Ethiopia Media Forum(EMF) reported last night that the leadership of the military is now under two Generals who act on his behalf: Lieutenant General Se'aree Mekonen and  Lieutenant General Tadesse Werede.

Samora acted the Commander-in-Chief in the absence of the Prime Minister Meles Zenawi who is reporttedly "critically ill" or "dead" as some reports. Samora's absence puts the role of C-I-C in the hands of two de facto Generals putting the Nation's Defense at its most weakest in 21 years.  De Birhan's sources have confirmed that General Samora has been receiving treatment at the Armed Forces General Hospital (Tor Hayloch) for the past few days before he became critically ill and left for extra care outside.
